An outing to Bridlington

MAECare is a voluntary organisation which came into being in May 1995 to improve the quality of life of older people in the Moor Allerton and Shadwell areas of north Leeds.

With support from volunteers from the local community, the organisation grew rapidly, developing many new services such as a befriending service, volunteer car scheme, luncheon clubs, and a live-at-home scheme to help with gardening and home security.

In December 2002, MAECare moved into newly refurbished shop-front premises and is able to offer an accessible service to local older people and their carers.

MAECare neighbourhoods have some of the highest concentrations of older people in Leeds and the organisation is currently in touch with 1200 pensioners and enjoys the support of over 90 volunteers.
